Who is going to be in Tulsa? Who is staying in their respective cities?

I know if you are in Tulsa you are, of course, welcome to our table for the celebration. Dinner is typically around 2 PMish. Some of the more traditional items for our meal include: Turkey (duh!), Becky's Mash Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole, Sweet Potatoes, Canned Cranberry's for Jamie (and others), Roads Rolls, Gran's Pumpkin Pie (her recipe) and Sarah's Apple Pie - plus much, much more! So, come join us!

Thinking of Thanksgiving brings back great memories for me of trips to Woodward, the smell of Turkey as Papa carved it, Gran directing everyone in the kitchen, playing upstairs with the pool table, canasta games late into the night, Gran's slide shows, dumping the marbles down the stairs as many times as possible before the grown ups told us to stop, trips to Wal-Mart to pick out our Christmas gifts, climbing the tree, hearing family stories...and so on...and so on....

What are your favorite Thanksgiving memories? So, I did this and found out about this guy, Abraham Pierson, the founder of Yale University. I did some further checking and found out about some great websites that among the information they provide, like name origins and family histories, there might be a potential "link" to the Abraham Pierson line via a decedent ending up in Ohio around the same time one of our ancestors was in Ohio.

When I chatted with Dad about this and asked if there was a "Pierson" in Ohio in the mid to late 1800s he said yes. However, I think he might have been confused because I haven't been able to find a Pierson there but a Williams/Merriweather there at that time. So, I was wondering what you guys think and if we could all together work on this link. Perhaps the links in this entry can help. Make it a point to read this one and tell me exactly how much this description sounds like us (start reading at "as a race...")!

Wouldn't it be cool to be related to the founder of that great institution?!

Let me know what you think!!
- Becky

Why the Haystack...

The Day Her Religion Became Real

In 1907 in Woodward, Oklahoma, Robert Wesley Pierson was born to Ora and Sadie Pierson. Robert was born somewhat premature and therefore was very small, only 5 pounds. As the town’s doctor Ora worked diligently to increase his son’s weight and move him to health quickly. However, the baby failed to eat any of the formulas they tried. After a few weeks of the child’s failure to thrive, Ora and Sadie realized their child was going to die. Hearing that the United Methodist bishop was going to be in town that Sunday they carried the child on a pillow, for his frail body couldn’t handle them holding him, the carried him to church to be baptized.

That night after putting Robert and the other children to bed, Ora and Sadie went out to the haystack behind the house to pray. Weeping they prayed, “Father, he is your child. You do what you want with him. We give him into your hands.” They next morning, Ora awoke with an idea for a new formula, which Robert ate. Quickly the baby began to gain weight and thrive. When retelling this story Sadie stated that it was that night that her faith in God became more than just a religion to her, it had become real.

How this works...

As of right now I am the only one who can post on here.
